Ave Maria Goldstone
Rosary with round polished goldstone Hail Mary beads and round polished lapis lazuli Our Fathers, with an Ave Maria Miraculous Medal center and a many hearts crucifix.
Symbolism in This Rosary
Goldstone is actually no stone, but a glittering glass infused with copper. Sometimes called monkstone from folklore associating its creation with a monastic order, it is also at times called gold sandstone.
Lapis Lazuli is very likely the “sapphire” mentioned in the Bible, as concurrent sources describe it with streaks of gold (pyrite). Actual sapphires, sourced in India at first, were not known to the area until the Roman Empire. It would therefore be both one of the stones of the breastplate of Aaron and one of the foundation stones of Revelation’s New Jerusalem. It is used throughout the Old Testament as a sign of both immense beauty and riches.
The Miraculous Medal is based on an apparition of Our Lady of Grace to Sister Catherine Laboure. It contains an image of Mary with rays of graces extending from her hands with the words “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.” On the back is a ring of twelve stars, the letter M surmounted by a cross, and two hearts---the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
